VacciCare Maestro
AI-Powered Vaccination Tracking That Leaves No Child Behind
💡 What Inspired Me
I am a working mother of two young children—a toddler and a baby.
After each vaccination visit, the nurse updates a government-issued RCH (Reproductive and Child Health) card and writes the next due date by hand. Months later, that date can easily be forgotten. There are no reminders, no follow-ups, and no way for healthcare workers to know whether a child missed an important vaccine.
I realized the challenge wasn't negligence—it was life. Busy parents simply have too much to remember.
I also discovered another gap: while the RCH card supports routine government immunization tracking, many pediatrician-recommended vaccines have no proactive follow-up mechanism for parents.
That inspired a simple question:
What if every child had a digital case manager that never forgot a vaccination date, proactively followed up with parents, and coordinated healthcare workers whenever intervention was needed?
That idea became VacciCare Maestro.
🔨 How I Built It
VacciCare Maestro combines UiPath Maestro, AI agents, automation, and human healthcare workers to orchestrate a child's complete vaccination journey.
Architecture
| Layer | Role |
|---|---|
| UiPath Maestro | Manages each child as a long-running case across registration, reminders, vaccination, and follow-up stages |
| AI Agents & Python Services | Handle schedule generation, risk prediction, migration detection, OCR, and personalized communication |
| External Integrations | WhatsApp, SMS, hospital systems, geolocation services, and vaccination databases |
Where Claude Code Helped
Claude Code changed how I build software.
I used Claude Code as a coding agent to help design, implement, test, and document six Python microservices supporting the solution. I provided the requirements, architecture, and business rules; Claude Code accelerated development by generating implementation scaffolding, test cases, API specifications, and edge-case handling.
This allowed me to focus on orchestration, user experience, and healthcare workflows while rapidly building supporting services.
Core Services
- Vaccine Scheduler – Generates personalized schedules based on WHO and pediatric recommendations.
- Migration Detector – Detects address changes from parent messages and reroutes cases to the nearest healthcare center.
- Reminder Composer – Generates multilingual reminders in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and English.
- Risk Scorer – Predicts missed appointments and prioritizes outreach.
- Certificate Generator – Produces bilingual vaccination certificates.
- RCH OCR Service – Extracts vaccination information from photographed RCH cards.
UiPath Maestro orchestrates the entire process, while these services provide specialized intelligence and automation.
📊 The Vaccination Coverage Gap
The current vaccination tracking process often focuses on routine immunization schedules, while parents may also need to track additional pediatrician-recommended vaccines.
The coverage gap can be represented as:
$$ G = 1 - \frac{V_{\text{tracked}}}{V_{\text{recommended}}} $$
VacciCare Maestro helps close this gap by maintaining a complete vaccination journey and proactively following up until every scheduled dose is addressed.
🔔 Smart Reminder Strategy
Instead of sending excessive notifications, the system sends reminders only when action is needed:
| Days Before Due Date | Action |
|---|---|
| 7 Days | Friendly reminder |
| 3 Days | Follow-up with reschedule option |
| 1 Day | Final confirmation |
| Due Date Missed | Automatic escalation |
Messages are delivered in the parent's preferred language and communication channel.
🚧 Challenges I Faced
The RCH Card Is Offline by Design
The vaccination booklet contains handwritten entries without a digital identifier, making automation difficult.
To address this, I built an OCR-assisted onboarding process with human review for low-confidence extractions, ensuring accuracy while minimizing manual effort.
Complex Vaccination Schedules
Vaccination schedules contain numerous exceptions involving prematurity, catch-up doses, and medical conditions.
Traditional rule-based logic quickly became difficult to maintain. Combining AI-assisted schedule generation with human review created a more flexible and scalable solution.
Balancing Automation with Human Care
Healthcare decisions require trust.
The biggest design challenge was deciding where automation should act independently and where healthcare workers should remain in control. VacciCare Maestro uses AI to recommend actions while ensuring humans make critical healthcare decisions.
📚 What I Learned
This project taught me that orchestration is fundamentally different from automation.
Vaccination management is not a single workflow—it is a long-running journey that spans months, involves multiple stakeholders, and requires constant adaptation to real-world events.
UiPath Maestro helped me think in terms of cases, decisions, and outcomes, rather than isolated tasks.
I also learned how AI agents, automation, and human expertise can work together to solve meaningful public health challenges.
🌟 Impact Vision
Every missed vaccine is a missed opportunity to protect a child.
VacciCare Maestro aims to reduce missed appointments, improve vaccination completion rates, and help healthcare workers focus their time where it matters most.
By combining AI, automation, and human oversight, the solution ensures that no child falls through the cracks simply because a reminder was forgotten.
Every Child. Every Vaccine. On Time.
