Inspiration

India’s ancient wisdom has been passed down for generations—through Ayurveda, Panchang, and folk remedies—but much of it feels out of reach for many, especially the younger generation and those who speak local languages. We wanted to change that.

Vaani Path was born from a simple idea: to bring this priceless knowledge closer to people’s hearts and homes, in a way that feels natural and easy to use. We believe everyone deserves to access trusted, traditional wisdom in their own language, helping them make better choices for their health and daily life. Our hope is to keep India’s cultural heritage alive and meaningful for today and tomorrow.

What it does

Vaani Path is an AI-powered guide that brings India’s traditional wisdom to you in your own language. It answers questions about natural remedies, Panchang, and folk knowledge with trusted, easy-to-understand advice. It provides natural health tips and remedies so you don’t always need to rush to the pharmacy. It helps you find auspicious timings and make better lifestyle choices easily. Speaking Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, and more, Vaani Path makes you feel right at home. By blending old traditions with modern science, it delivers safe, reliable answers. With Vaani Path, ancient wisdom meets today’s technology to help you live better every day.

How we built it

We developed Vaani Path by combining state-of-the-art AI tools with robust web and data technologies to deliver a seamless user experience. For speech recognition, we used OpenAI Whisper, allowing accurate understanding of Indian languages. The conversational AI is powered by OpenAI API, which processes natural language queries and generates contextual responses.

Our frontend is built in ReactJS for a responsive, user-friendly interface, while the backend is handled by Node.js to manage API calls and business logic. The knowledge base relies on the Osadhi database, a comprehensive source for Ayurvedic and herbal remedy data.

Additionally, we integrated the Swiss Ephemeris library to perform precise Panchang (traditional calendar) calculations, ensuring accuracy in auspicious timings and other related computations.

Together, these technologies allow Vaani Path to blend deep cultural wisdom with modern AI and web capabilities, providing users with trusted and accessible traditional knowledge.

Challenges we ran into

Building Vaani Path involved overcoming challenges related to Indian language diversity and technology integration. Speech recognition with OpenAI Whisper sometimes struggled with dialects, code-switching, and short phrases common in regional languages, requiring fine-tuning and normalization. Mapping traditional remedies from the Osadhi database to relevant user queries while ensuring safety was complex. Precise Panchang calculations using Swiss Ephemeris demanded accurate astronomical data aligned with cultural expectations. Additionally, optimizing real-time responsiveness on the ReactJS frontend and Node.js backend amid AI API latencies was essential to maintain a smooth user experience.

The project contributes to preserving and digitizing valuable cultural heritage, making it accessible for self-care and daily guidance, especially in underserved communities. We also align with broader national efforts like Project Vaani, helping expand AI inclusivity across India’s diverse linguistic landscape.

What we learned

Building Vaani Path taught us the importance of handling India’s linguistic diversity with care. Using OpenAI Whisper showed us the challenges of speech recognition for local dialects and code-switching. We also learned the value of responsibly combining traditional knowledge from the Osadhi database with modern AI, ensuring safe and relevant guidance. What's next for Vaani Path

Moving forward, Vaani Path aims to expand its language support to cover more regional Indian languages and dialects, making traditional knowledge even more accessible. We plan to enhance AI accuracy through continuous training and fine-tuning, especially for nuanced speech patterns and local expressions. We also intend to broaden our knowledge base by integrating more traditional health systems and cultural practices from across India. Improving the user experience with richer conversational features and offline capabilities is another focus to serve remote areas better. Ultimately, we want Vaani Path to become a trusted daily companion that bridges the gap between deep-rooted Indian heritage and cutting-edge technology for millions of users nationwide.
