The team became initially interested in this project challenge because we were excited about the idea to work on a project that places the patient's concerns first!

The project makes use of the React platform to provide a preliminary website prototype that provides women with Precancerous Cervical Lesions (PCL) with information about testing, understanding results, and treatment options. The platform provides the differences between the current gold standard for treatment, cryotherapy, and a well studied, yet under-advocated treatment option, thermocoagulation (TC). TC has proven to be less expensive, easier to transport, cause less pain, and has results of curing PCL that are comparable to cryotherapy. TC works in a few seconds, whereas cryotherapy requires the use of anesthetic, takes several minutes long, may be uncomfortable, and is often followed by a loop electrophysical excision procedure (LEEP) and may cause childbearing issues.

Our team included 4 individuals with an array of talents where we all learned from one another. Some members coded the platform and taught the other members some basic coding principles in React and HTML/CSS, while other members were able to provide research on the topic and teach design expertise and ideas with their respective backgrounds. As a collective, the team had fun working together on this project to advocate for a treatment program with better outlook for patients!
