Inspiration
Our hackathon project aims to improve the shopping experience of visually impaired individuals when it comes to beauty products. We've named our solution "UZURI LENS" by combining the words "lens" and "uzuri," which means "beauty" in Swahili. This name was inspired by one of our team members, Duncan, who had a Kenyan friend that was blind and couldn't fully experience skin care products beyond their scent due to a lack of accessibility.
What it does
Our solution involves using technology to provide interactive sound-based information about the products during live shopping, enabling visually impaired individuals to have an independent and enjoyable shopping experience.
How we built it
To accomplish this, we're using AR, AI, and cloud computing technologies to create a Beauty Lens Window that will pioneer the next generation of inclusive, interactive, and disruptive beauty product store shopping experiences for the visually impaired.
Challenges we ran into
- Lack of more technical capacity
- Lack of people with some skills we needed e.g video editing
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making the AR code work in a short timeframe
What we learned
We learnt a lot about PWDs and the challenges they go through to do specific things and how we can help to improve tthat.
What's next for Uzurilens
We plan to make Uzuri Lens available for all vendors so that they can serve their different needs but this needs more technical capacity and cloud storage for scalability.
