Inspiration
Being board members of a UX/UI Club, we wanted to do something to our strengths. This led us to want to build a club website, using our design skills. We were inspired by other design club’s websites! We figured out what we needed to include on our website by looking at similar club’s websites. DesignAtUci DavisDi UcsdDesign
What it does
The goal of our website was to showcase our club and recruit more members. We wanted to provide information on our club through a friendly user experience.
How we built it
We used CSS, HTML, Javascript, and Figma. We watched plenty of videos, learning how to do things such as create headers, create hamburger menus, stylize using CSS, and debug using inspect element.
Challenges we ran into
Jeffrey Dang was the only member comfortable being a developer, so after the design phase, the development portion was a one man team.
"Haven’t used HTML in 4 years. First time using CSS and Javascript. I initially tried making the website reactive; however, due to lack of experience, I was taking more than I could chew. I had a lot of trouble with a hamburger menu, so asked #tech-support in the slack. Arthur initially helped me, and he was a joy to talk and work with. Unfortunately we couldn’t figure it out, so we got the help of Grady. He was an amazing wizard at web development, and I learned a lot from him. Thankful for this help at 1 am." -Jeffrey Dang
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of designing and coding an entire website in a weekend. Considering this is our first hackathon, and we are not primarily programmers, we thought this was a great experience.
What we learned
We learned how to design a website from sketching to a high fidelity prototype Jeffrey learned HTML, CSS, and Javascript and it was his first time web developing.
