Inspiration
The inspiration for this project came a few weeks ago when I moved into a new class, and I realized how difficult finding study partners can sometimes be. I checked if there were good UW-run forums to find study partners, and to my surprise, I couldn't find anything. This project seeks to come up with a solution.
What it does
This project allows a user to create a profile with their NetID, student email, and an availability calendar. Then, the user can search for other students in the network to find people who share their courses and free time.
How we built it
This project was built front-end, and hosted on GitHub Pages. It uses local storage and a data file to simulate storage.
Challenges we ran into
The original idea was to create a fully functional product using cloud storage, but I couldn't figure it out in time, and so I just decided to secure a proof of concept.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of how much I was able to make the project fit in with the prescribed UW style standards and smoothness.
What we learned
I have had a bit of a taste for how front-end and back-end connect together, as well as what I should focus on learning in the future.
What's next for UW Study Buddy
The logical next step for the project would be to have actual user authentication with the UW system, and have cloud storage rather than local.
