Inspiration
We noticed that the only way for students to find lost items is through the UW 2024-2027 Snapchat story, and it is not a reliable source of finding lost and found items so we wanted to make an app that makes it super easy to post a photo of a lost item and if someone is looking for something they can just claim their belonging if they find it through an app.
What it does
The user inputs their UW Student Net ID into the login page and is then directed to another display that shows a feed of all student's lost and found posts. Users will be able to upload a picture to the feed with a photo from their camera / camera roll and add a description alongside it as well. Users are able to scroll on the feed and claim an object they find are of their belonging and will be able to message the user that posted the image to meet up with them.
How we built it
We used swift on Xcode
Challenges we ran into
At first, we didn't know how to do anything but we spent a lot of time researching and watching tutorials because we really felt like this was a project we wanted to spend our time on. We have also never had any experience making an app / other projects outside of class. This was also our first hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to make a semi-complete app that functions the way we wanted it to.
What we learned
We learned how to use Swift and Xcode, because we have never made an app before and this was our first time trying out everything in relation to building apple applications. We also learned how much we can complete in a day from knowing nothing
What's next for UW Student Lost and Found
We want to continue building and finishing this project and hope that it can be used and supported by UW and used by students on campus when completed.
