UW Buddies

A course selection tool to help UWaterloo students find friends in all of their courses; ie. a chrome extension that shows which students are in which courses.

Inspiration

With many students having started their post-secondary life remotely, it has been difficult to connect with new friends and choose courses together. This app aims to helps connect students with others who are taking the same courses.

What it does

Students can open the chrome extension on UWaterloo's webpage with their list of courses, https://classes.uwaterloo.ca/uwpcshtm.html, and ideally view which students (ie. emails) are taking the courses that they are.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • A functioning proof-of-concept with authentication, elements that appear on the courses webpage, and integrating styling as a new developer.

What's next for UW Buddies

  • Displaying all of the users who are taking a course when someone hovers over the number under the "Buddies" column
  • Adding support for groups, so that friends can limit the people with whom they do course selection to a specific group of individuals
