An easy-to-use sunscreen reminder that takes into account the user’s location, activity, and the last time they applied sunscreen in order to give them reapplication alerts.

Inspiration

This application was inspired by our experience as locals in Redlands. We have all experienced some nasty burns over the last summer, but have been too busy making maps and taking names to remember to use UV protection!

What it does

A mobile app that recommends sunscreen reapplication and educates on UV exposure based on the user's activity and location

How we built it

This app was built in Swift with the SwiftUI Framework and the ArcGIS Runtime SDK for iOS. The web map is hosted in arcGIS online and the UV data was sourced using the OpenWeatherAPI

Challenges we ran into

  • No publicly available UV raster dataset
  • Runtime SDK was built for UIKit and not SwiftUI
  • Apple developer features are paywalled
  • We do not have background developing in Swift
  • 'Open' API was not free and had API Call fees

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Teamwork!!!!
  • Getting a working app
  • Sharing a loit of backgrounds and learning new technologies and frameworks
