Inspiration
Due to the covid19 crisis is needed equipment to prevent the contagious. UV is an alternative, of course, controlling the power and the time exposition for domestic and medical applications to prevent covid19 contagious. Also, there are many vulnerable social sectors that we want to help.
What it does
UV is a light with a length wave of 254nm, which is in the sizes of the covid19, so it is possible to destroy the virus using a UVC led lamp that we design
How we built it
An array of UV LEDs are placed on the device to sanitize devices and Personal Protection Items. Of course, UV is dangerous, but with electronic control is possible to control the power and the time exposition and thus to apply in domestic and medical applications, for example, to sanitize the masks, gloves, the clothes, the hands, the keyboard, the keys, the cellphone, and other.
Challenges we ran into
Covid 19 is a pandemic whose contagions increase daily. Prevention solutions need to be created. Therefore, the proposal to eliminate the virus by means of UVC light is raised. For this, it is necessary to achieve the ergonomic design of the equipment, electronic control, in addition to the device having the portability characteristic and allowing security to the user.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
Technical microbiological study on the wavelength and intensity necessary to eliminate the COVID19 virus, engineering study, and development of the UVC lamp device both in the mechanical part of the design and ergonomics and in the requirements of the energy control electronics. Generation of a first prototype thanks to 3D design and 3D printing.
What we learned:
Alternative non-chemical systems to disinfect and prevent the covid19 virus. Microbiological study of the virus, amount of energy needed to eliminate the virus, effects of UVC light on humans, design of UVC lamps, social sectors that are vulnerable in this COVID 19 pandemic, the need for the product in the health sector and shortages that there is personal protective equipment.
