Inspiration
India is home to thousands of vibrant festivals across diverse regions, but discovering when and where these celebrations occur—and how to plan a trip around them—is often fragmented across scattered blogs and guides. Utsav Bharat was born out of a desire to create a single, intuitive cultural discovery hub that connects travelers with India's rich heritage and helps them experience local traditions firsthand.
What it does
Utsav Bharat simplifies cultural tourism by offering a centralized web platform where travelers can:
Discover Festivals: Explore upcoming Indian cultural, regional, and seasonal festivals along with event background details.
Find Destinations: Identify top-recommended cities, towns, and regions best suited for celebrating specific festivities.
Plan Itineraries: Access comprehensive, step-by-step travel itineraries tailored to festival schedules, local attractions, and travel logistics.
How we built it
Rapid Prototyping & AI Assistance: Designed and developed the web platform using modern frontend tools, leveraging Claude to write code, refine UI components, and structure application logic.
Data Architecture: Organized festival calendars, regional tourism highlights, and location metadata into structured JSON models for quick querying.
Deployment: Hosted and deployed the web application online for globally accessible performance.
Challenges we ran into
Dynamic Calendar Alignment: Many Indian festivals follow lunar and regional calendars, requiring careful data mapping to accurately sync festival dates with annual Gregorian calendar dates.
Information Density: Balancing high-level cultural overviews with practical, granular travel logistics without cluttering the interface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
End-to-End Launch: Built and deployed a fully functional web platform from initial concept to live deployment using AI-driven development practices.
Unified Experience: Seamlessly merged cultural event discovery and travel itinerary planning into a cohesive, user-friendly visual layout.
What we learned
AI-Assisted Engineering: Gained practical experience co-building complete web applications with Claude to accelerate development loops and component building.
Data Structuring: Learned effective techniques for modeling diverse regional travel information and non-standard event dates.
What's next for Utsav Bharat
Interactive Mapping: Integrate map APIs to visualize festival locations, nearby accommodations, and route navigation.
Community Insights: Enable local travelers and residents to contribute festival tips, hidden spots, and regional culinary recommendations.
Personalized Travel Filtering: Implement preference filters targeting specific interests such as art, music, spiritual gatherings, or food culture.
