Concept Narrative
Business Description
There are 1.216 billion people in Africa, and 206 million people in Nigeria, and all of these people require health care. Nigeria, in particular, has been facing some challenges with his health care system, with this past season of the COVID 19, the situation has had negative impact on the wellbeing of the citizenry and with the current economic situations, doctors have also not helped the situation, we discovered from our research that Nigeria has a shortage of doctors, With one doctor for every 40000 patients far below the WHO recommendation of one doctor to every 400 patients. With this outlook, patients have found it difficult to connect with doctors and specialists.
As of June 2020, UTS Medical Services registered with the Cooperation Affairs Commission. It is a telemedicine app that connects patients directly to doctors, from all over Nigeria. UTS Medical Services makes healthcare easier and faster by reducing the amount of time patients wait before seeing the doctor, as well as connecting patients easily with specialists. Telemedicine is not a new concept; it has been adopted by many Western countries but this innovation and its benefits have not yet been explored by Africa.
During our research, we discovered that existing platforms were unable to monitor the states of patients, which is a major advantage of physical consultation, but we at UTS medical services were able to develop a device that allows doctors to tell patients vitals before, during, and after consultation, as well as monitor patients who require special monitoring. This system is known as a Remote Patient Monitoring device (RPM Device), and it allows doctors or consultants to monitor their patients' vitals in real time before, during, and after consultation.
Market Analysis
During the last few weeks, we at UTS Medical Services conducted some research. We were able to physically interview some doctors to validate the problems they faced and our proposed solution. We also created a survey for doctors and patients and received some feedback, and they admitted that there are not enough doctors in the country in comparison to our population. The majority of patients who responded to our survey said it was difficult to connect with new doctors and specialists. They also said they travel an average of 20 minutes to the hospital and wait an average of 30 minutes to an hour before seeing the doctors. During the research, we were able to ask doctors what types of illnesses could be treated during a virtual visit, and we were able to take notes. Simple viral respiratory infections , Gastroenteritis, malaria, headache, MSK pain, etc can all be treated during a virtual visit. WIth this we were able to identify our: Total Available Market, which consists of Doctors and Patients, Our segmented addressable market, which consists of people in Nigeria who require health care and doctors who consult with patients. We expect to capture 0.002% of the telemedicine market in Africa over the next five years, equating to approximately $200,000 in revenue.. We have a prototype app that has been created and has been downloaded on our devices and our volunteer patient and doctors devices, a few consultations have taken place already.. One of our volunteers told us that they found our platform very user friendly and they were able to connect with the doctor, and she was able to diagnose our patient and referred him for a lab test. On the doctors path she enjoyed the consultation as she was able to consult with the patient efficiently and was able to diagnose the patient.
Competitive Analysis There are several telemedicine platforms in Nigeria, but only a few are focused on providing online consultations, including MobiHealth, My Dokita, and Tremendoc. They are all fantastic platforms with incredible features.
The UTS medical services app is designed in such a way that it is user friendly for both doctors and patients, the app is designed specifically for doctors and patients in an easy to use manner, the app allows patients to consult with their regular physician or entirely new doctors, the app lets you book in person appointments with doctors either at the comfort of your home or the hospital, and also gives you the option to organise your movement there, the app lets you schedule laboratory and vaccinations, It also enables patients to order prescribed medications.
UTS Medical Services is also beneficial to doctors ,as doctors can consult with patients anywhere and at any time, connect with fellow doctors and specialists from all over the world, and share and gain medical resources and opportunities. Doctors would be able to gain extra income from our platform. Hospitals would also benefit from our platform because they can consult with their usual patients who live nearby or far away.
UTS Medical Services provides a feature that no other telemedicine provider in the world currently provides, which is a remote patient monitoring system that can tell patients' vitals before, during, and after consultations. This device can also be placed on patients who require special monitoring, such as patients with Cardiology illnesses, women on Ante-natal care, people with diabetes, and so on.
UTS Medical Services has worked on an effective payment plan that is beneficial to both health care providers and patients. UTS Medical Services is going to apply to the Health Insurance Organisation to be recognized as a healthcare provider, so that its users' bills can be taken care of in the same way that hospital bills are taken care of. We are going to be starting with Lagos state, then Nigeria and the world at large.
COST AND FINANCIAL PROJECTION
The cost of building our app is $1500 per year , which would be available in two formats: a web app and a mobile app that would be available on both Android and IOS.
The RPM device comes in a variety of forms, but for the time being, we will concentrate on the smart watch and bracelet, which are designed to provide real-time vitals before, during, and after consultation. The watch and bracelet are built with an Arduino Microcontroller and include various sensors such as a temperature sensor, a pulse sensor, a heart beat sensor, a heart rate sensor, and so on.In addition, the device includes software that is linked to the app. The smart watch costs $50 to make, and the smart bracelet costs $35 to make.
UTS Medical Services cannot set a general price for every doctor because each doctor and specialist differ in experience level, so each level of doctor has a price range they must fall under, for example, doctors with 1-5 years experience can charge between $15-35 dollars. . UTS Medical Services would add 15% to each consultation, for a total of 28.75, allowing doctors to maximise profit while providing the best services possible.
Funding Sources
UTS Medical Services has reached out to various angel investor programs such as Zagadat Capital, as well as many other private investors, and has attended entrepreneurial events.
The functionality of UTS medical services is based on the java and c++ programming languages, and it incorporates an electronic medical records[EMR] system, which allows for the storage, capture, and sorting of all patient medical data in order to make switching medical doctors on the app easier in the event that you are dissatisfied with the treatment they have received. Anyone may use our software because it is designed to be user-friendly and simple to use. Doctors use the RPM gadget given to patients to check their vitals in real time when appropriate, which UTS medical services takes use of. We would use web telecommunications to connect diverse doctors and professionals from all around the world. It would also safeguard the privacy of all of its users. Our RPM devices (watches and wristbands) would be designed and provided to our patients in order to assist them with all of the services they receive. Our software is designed to aid doctors and specialists in their efforts to make healthcare more accessible to the general public. We would offer a number of services to our patients, including free mental health consultations for those who are experiencing mental health problems. We used glide to create our app prototype, and we were able to collaborate with an IoT business to help us construct our RPM device. Our RPM device is made up of an Arduino nano controller and a variety of sensors that can accurately measure your temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG, among other things.
The software would connect to the RPM device, allowing doctors and caregivers to monitor patients' vital signs before, during, and after consultation.
