Inspiration
Notes are the most personal data we own — yet most note apps quietly sync them to someone else's cloud. We asked a simple question: what if a "second brain" could be genuinely yours? Not an account. Not a subscription to your own thoughts. Just your memories, living and running on your phone.
What it does
Uteke is a semantic notes app that runs 100% on-device:
- Capture memories by voice or text — transcription happens on the phone
- Find them by meaning, not keywords — typing "hello" surfaces "Hi" and "Hey" (99% match), no exact words needed
- Organize with rooms and collections
- And the proof shot of our demo: turn on airplane mode — search and recall still work. Zero network.
The free tier is real: capture, search, collections — free forever. Uteke Pro removes the ceilings: unlimited voice dictation, unlimited export, automatic backups.
How we built it
- Flutter app with a local Rust core for semantic memory and search, accessed via FFI — inference runs inside the app process, not on a server
- On-device embeddings power meaning-based recall; storage is local, there is no cloud sync to turn off
- RevenueCat (
purchases_flutter) drives the entire monetization layer: a singleproentitlement, prices fetched live from RC Offerings (never hardcoded in the app), a 7-day free trial, and instant Pro unlock without an app restart
Challenges we ran into
Making semantic search fast enough to feel instant on a phone — and then proving it. The airplane-mode toggle in our demo video isn't a stunt; it's the default condition we designed for. The other challenge was honest monetization: real limits with visible counters, no dark patterns — hit a ceiling, and Uteke simply asks.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A privacy story that doesn't ask you to trust us — there is nothing to trust, because nothing ever leaves the device. And checkout that respects the same promise: handled natively by Google Play through RevenueCat, unlock the instant you confirm.
What we learned
On-device AI is a product decision, not just an architecture. Every feature got easier to trust and harder to fake — which is exactly the bar a personal notes app should clear.
RevenueCat integration (for judges)
- One entitlement (
pro) mapped across monthly & yearly plans, configured in RC - All paywall prices render from RC Offerings — zero hardcoded prices
- 7-day free trial (intro offer) so you can test premium features free
- Sandbox-purchased live in the demo video: tap → Play sheet → confirm → Pro unlocks instantly, no restart
- Restore purchases supported in-app
