Inspiration

The story of Amin Khan, a skilled painter-turned-vlogger struggling to find regular work, inspired us to create Ustaad. Amin represents countless skilled laborers across Pakistan who face unemployment despite their expertise due to a lack of visibility and trust. At the same time, individuals like students, expatriates, and new residents struggle to find reliable technicians for their daily needs. This dual challenge motivated us to design Ustaad as a solution to bridge the gap between skilled workers and the public.

What It Does

Ustaad is a platform that connects skilled laborers (electricians, plumbers, painters, etc.) with customers in need of reliable services. It offers:

• AI-powered matching that recommends the best-suited laborer for a job based on user needs and urgency.
  
• Verified and trusted workers to ensure safety and trust through background checks.
  
• User-friendly features such as location sharing via Google Maps, appointment scheduling using Google Calendar, negotiable rates, and direct communication with laborers.
  
• Photo uploads for online issue consultations and enterprise support that enables organizations to hire skilled workers for long-term projects.
  

How We Built It

1. Conceptualization: We identified the problems faced by laborers and consumers, then designed features to address them.
   
2. Technology stack:
   
   • AI integration powered by Gemini created a recommendation engine for matching users with skilled workers.
     
   • Google services were integrated, including Google Maps for location sharing and Google Calendar for scheduling.
     
   • Mobile app development focused on designing a simple and intuitive app to display profiles, ratings, and reviews.
     
3. Verification system: We developed a robust verification process to ensure the credibility of laborers.
   
4. Testing and feedback: We conducted pilot testing to gather insights and refine the platform.
