Inspiration

We just wanted to create something fun while also challenging us.

What it does

It is a box with a lever, when the lever is flicked the box will open and a cane will come out to return the lever to its starting position.

How we built it

We built the useless machine using Javascript and HTML, with a class that detects when the mouse button is clicked and relaying the position of the click so we know when a lever is flicked. If the lever is flicked than an animation will play where the lever gets flicked back to its starting position and the process repeats.

Challenges we ran into

One of the greatest challenges we ran into was working together as a team. It was really hard trying to cooperate but also having to wait for other people to finish their segment to make it possible for the rest of us to continue working on our portion of the code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the somewhat passable animation of the useless machine, along with how we were able to figure out problems and fix them at a faster rate than if we were to do things ourselves.

What we learned

We learned that working together as a team is not so streamline of a process. At times there wasn't proper communication so we wasted time trying to figure out what the other person was trying to accomplish. Other times our ideas conflicted with one another and when the code broke it affected all of us. It was honestly a valuable experience on teamwork in coding and what to expect in the future.

What's next for Useless Machine

To be honest, originally we intended to add a lot more features to the Useless machine, such a multiple levers that could be flicked and unflicked in whatever order they are flicked. But unfortunately when making the pixel art for the Useless Machine, that wasn't taken into consideration so doing something like that would've been extremely odd looking. But it is definitely something worth trying in the future.
