Inspiration
We are passionate about sustainability and aim to engage people by making it both fun and hilarious. We hope our lighthearted messages serve as occasional encouragement throughout the day and as reminders to care for our planet. Beyond this, we also want to promote a more economical lifestyle. Having been students for so long, it's easy to forget we're transitioning into adulthood, where paying our own bills becomes a reality — and electricity bills can certainly add up
What it does
The user logs in their schedule when they want to turn off the lights. When it's time for turning off the lights, the users will receive a pop-up notification. If they click on the notification, the app will lead the user to the landing page and the users will be awarded a meme for their good deeds.
How we built it
We build the mobile app using React, HTML, CSS, Javascript and JSX. As our members have little experience in React and mobile app development, it was a fun and challenging experience for us to develop an app from scratch.
Challenges we ran into
We have problems merging the code. Everyone’s code works fine on their own computer, but when merging the code, we stumble on problems because of our different coding styles and logic.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of learning about teamwork. Everyone works on different pages but we were able to connect it all together. We were a little hesitant at first to implement the app because we didn't have much experience. But we decided to take a chance and we were able to step out of our comfort zone and push ourselves above our limits.
What we learned
Of course, we learn a lot about technical skills such as React Native, JavaScript, and so on, but more importantly, we learn a lot about teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills. Also, we learn how to be patient when we encounter a bug or when things don't work as expected. We really enjoy staying all night together, turning our ideas into reality.
What's next for Use Wirely
We want to implement a calendar where we record our monthly progress in electricity saving.
