INSPIRATION

The inspiration to create usAHA! comes from the significant rise and potential of UMKM (Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah) in Indonesia. The increasing number of UMKM highlights the importance of supporting these businesses, which form the backbone of the Indonesian economy. According to the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, UMKM contributes around 60% to Indonesia's GDP and employs nearly 97% of the national workforce. However, despite their critical role, many UMKM face challenges in transitioning to the digital age and accessing the necessary resources to grow. Observing the difficulties small business owners encounter in finding suitable spaces and tools, we realized the need for a platform that could bridge this gap. usAHA! aims to address these issues by providing an efficient and safe way for UMKM to rent workspaces and trade pre-owned tools, ultimately empowering them to thrive in a competitive market.

usAHA! perfectly embodies the theme that we have chosen which is “Stronger Together” by fostering a community-based ecosystem where UMKM can thrive. By providing essential tools and spaces tailored to the needs of small businesses, usAHA! enables entrepreneurs to collaborate, share resources, and innovate together. This platform not only facilitates access to physical spaces and pre-loved items but also strengthens the sense of community among UMKM. With usAHA!, businesses can support one another, driving collective progress and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Through shared efforts and mutual support, usAHA! creates an environment where the spirit of being stronger together truly comes to life.

WHAT IT DOES

usAHA! is dedicated to supporting UMKM (Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah) by providing essential resources that facilitate business growth and development. Our primary goal is to address the critical needs of small businesses, starting with access to workspaces and tools. One of our key features is "Sewa Tempat," which allows users to rent temporary workspaces tailored to their business requirements. This feature ensures that business owners can find suitable environments to operate, experiment, and expand their ventures without the long-term commitment and financial burden of permanent rentals. Additionally, our "Jual Beli Alat" marketplace offers a platform for buying and selling pre-owned tools. This marketplace enables UMKM to access high-quality, affordable equipment, allowing them to optimize their operations and resources. By facilitating these transactions, we help businesses save costs and promote sustainability through the reuse of valuable tools. Beyond these practical features, usAHA! also serves as a vibrant community hub. It is a space where UMKM owners and individuals can connect, share experiences, and support each other. This sense of community fosters collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing, creating a supportive network that empowers small businesses to thrive. Our platform aims to be more than just a resource provider; it strives to be a catalyst for growth, creativity, and mutual support within the UMKM ecosystem.

HOW WE BUILT IT

The process of creating usAHA! has been a remarkable experience for our team. We have two software engineers, one UI/UX designer, and one project manager & pitching coordinator. At the outset, we engaged in extensive brainstorming sessions, carefully considering the two themes provided and deliberating on our direction. Initially, we explored various ideas, including a waste-collecting app. Ultimately, we decided to focus on providing support and resources for small businesses in Indonesia (UMKM). Once we settled on the idea of usAHA!, we began working according to our respective roles. We held regular brainstorming sessions and discussions, fostering collaboration and mutual support. This collaborative approach allowed us to refine our concept and develop a platform that effectively addresses the needs of small businesses. Through teamwork and dedication, we have created a platform that we believe will significantly benefit UMKM in Indonesia.

Our project leverages a modern tech stack to deliver a responsive and visually appealing user interface alongside a robust backend. For the frontend, we utilized Next.js, which incorporates TypeScript, HTML, and CSS to create engaging and responsive UI components. The backend is built using Django, allowing us to efficiently manage our API and database models through Django ORM and Django Rest Framework. We chose PostgreSQL for our database, deploying it on neon.tech, a cloud database service. The backend is deployed using Choreo, while Vercel handles the frontend deployment, ensuring seamless integration and performance across our application. Lastly, we use aws s3 to store and manage user images and files.

CHALLENGES WE RAN INTO

Building usAHA! presented several significant challenges that we navigated as a team. One of the primary hurdles was the tight time constraint imposed by the hackathon environment. With limited hours to conceive, develop, and refine our idea, we had to meticulously manage our time and prioritize tasks to ensure we met our project goals. This required quick decision-making and efficient execution to deliver a functional prototype within the competition's timeframe. Another challenge we faced was knowing when to draw the line on expanding our ideas. In the creative process, it's easy to continuously brainstorm new features or enhancements. However, we had to balance innovation with feasibility and time constraints. We learned to focus on core functionalities that aligned with our project's objectives, avoiding unnecessary complexity that could delay implementation or detract from our main goals. Additionally, defining the scope of usAHA! posed a significant challenge. Initially, we were enthusiastic about helping UMKM (Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah) in Indonesia but needed to clarify the extent of our platform's assistance. This involved determining which specific resources and support mechanisms would be most beneficial and feasible to implement within the hackathon's timeframe. Through iterative discussions and feedback, we refined our scope to prioritize essential features that could have a meaningful impact on small businesses, ensuring our efforts were focused and effective. Despite these challenges, our team's collaborative spirit and determination enabled us to overcome obstacles and successfully develop usAHA! Each challenge provided valuable lessons in project management, scope definition, and decision-making under pressure, contributing to a rewarding and educational experience at Garuda Hacks.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT WE ARE PROUD OF

We take pride in the seamless teamwork that allowed us to execute our roles effectively throughout the development of usAHA!. Each team member's dedication and specialized contributions as software engineers, UI/UX designer, and project manager & pitching coordinator were pivotal in shaping a cohesive and impactful platform. This collaborative effort ensured that usAHA! not only met but exceeded our initial ambitions to support UMKM (Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah) in Indonesia, providing them with essential resources and fostering a supportive community. Despite facing challenges such as tight time constraints and limited resources during the hackathon, our team's resilience and innovative spirit prevailed. We successfully navigated these obstacles to deliver a functional prototype that reflects our commitment to empowering small businesses. This achievement underscores our ability to adapt, strategize, and deliver tangible solutions that address real-world challenges, marking a significant milestone in our journey to make a meaningful difference in the entrepreneurial landscape of Indonesia.

WHAT WE LEARNED

In this hackathon journey to build usAHA!, we've gained invaluable lessons that span both technical and non-technical aspects of web development. From navigating the complexities of coding to understanding the nuances of user experience, we learned to approach our project with humility and focus on building from simple, yet impactful ideas. This approach allowed us to streamline our development process and prioritize features that truly enhance user interaction and functionality. Moreover, GarudaHacks 5.0 provided us with the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR OUR PROJECT

Moving forward, our focus is on serious development and implementation of our project. We aim to ensure that usAHA! reaches UMKM effectively, providing them with practical tools and spaces that foster growth and innovation. Our goal is to make a tangible impact by empowering small businesses to leverage technology effectively, thereby enhancing their productivity and competitiveness in the market. Additionally, we are committed to raising awareness among UMKM, particularly those in the adult demographics, about the benefits of integrating technology into their operations. By offering user-friendly interfaces and accessible resources, we aim to bridge the digital divide and equip UMKM with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in today's digital economy. Through strategic partnerships and continuous improvement, we envision usAHA! becoming a catalyst for sustainable growth and community empowerment among small businesses across Indonesia.
