After seeing the potential of Mathematica from a representative, I wanted to develop something that would hone my Mathematica skills and take advantage of WolframAlpha's vast databases, natural language processing, pattern detection, and graphical display. This project pulls presidential election data from a website, uses pattern detection to simplify that data (which originally was in HTML) into a workable data set. Using this data set in conjunction with Mathematica's GeoGraphics, I created a visual timeline of the US states from 1900-2008, showing how states changed from Democratic to Republican to Independent.
I'd like to thank Mathematica representative, Justin. Without his support, this project would not have been possible.
