Inspiration

The inspiration for this game is Alice In Borderland, a TV show where people are being dragged into a world where they are required to play games to acquire poker cards to live. The idea of collaborating or competing with other people is a very interesting way to meet new friends. Therefore we build this online social game.

What it does

Us in R'Land is a geo-location-based game. The goal of the game is to collect poker cards and get on the top of the ranking board. Games are generated at a random time and a random location in the day, and people need to be in the range of the game to participate. Players can earn points and collect cards by winning the game. There's a networking real-time chat room that allows everyone in a game to communicate. The chat in the game room is burned after reading. So if people want to keep talking with each other they can add each other as friends by scanning their QR code. After that, they can send messages to each other in real-time and the database will store their message.

How we built it

We use next.js, tailwind, google map API, firebase, socket.io, cloud Vision API

Challenges we ran into

  • The most difficult part is definitely getting the socket.io networking to work.
  • The real-time chatting feature also takes us a lot of time to figure out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • To make the game more attractive we designed a very mysterious UI in Figma and implemented a lot of animations to make the user experience better.
  • We are able to make 2 multiplayer games and the in-game group chatting room.

What we learned

  • Finishing such a big project in 24h was an incredible experience.
  • For this hackathon, we really push ourselves out of our comfort zone to explore a variety of topics that we don't experience in class.

What's next for Us In R'land

We would like to have a more abundant game collection involving different technology to bring the players more excitement.
