Inspiration

Millions of students studying in Urdu-medium schools and madaaris do not have access to modern AI-based learning tools. Most AI assistants are designed primarily for English-speaking users and fail to support Urdu language, Islamic studies, and pedagogy-aware explanations. As an educator and Urdu writer, I saw a clear gap: AI exists, but it is not usable for Urdu learners in a structured, classroom-friendly way. This inspired me to build UrduAI Taleem Companion.

What it does

UrduAI Taleem Companion is an AI-powered educational assistant designed specifically for Urdu-medium and Islamic education learners. It helps: Students understand lessons in simple, clear Urdu Teachers prepare lesson plans, questions, and exams Islamic studies learners receive respectful, non-sectarian explanations The system focuses on understanding, not memorization, and delivers structured educational outputs instead of casual chatbot replies.

How we built it

We built UrduAI Taleem Companion using Gemini 3 through structured prompt engineering. Key design elements: A strong System Prompt defining Gemini as an educational assistant Separate Student Mode and Teacher Mode prompts Pedagogy-aware instructions for summaries, explanations, exams, and lesson plans Urdu-first language design with minimal English usage We designed structured, pedagogy-aware prompts to transform Gemini 3 from a general chatbot into a context-aware Urdu learning assistant. No complex coding was required—clarity, structure, and educational logic were the core strengths.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenges were: Ensuring outputs remain educational, not conversational Maintaining simple, fluent Urdu without unnecessary English terms Designing prompts that work equally well for students and teachers Handling Islamic content respectfully and non-sectarian These challenges were solved through careful prompt structuring and repeated testing with real lesson content.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully transformed Gemini 3 into a classroom-ready educational assistant Created reusable prompt templates for multiple subjects Designed a system usable by teachers, students, and self-learners Built an inclusive AI solution for a largely ignored non-English audience Most importantly, the project proves that AI can support education beyond English-centric systems.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned that: Prompt design can be as powerful as code Educational clarity requires structure, not long answers Language inclusion is essential for AI equity AI systems must respect cultural and educational contexts This experience strengthened our understanding of AI as a learning system, not just a chatbot.

What's next for UrduAI Taleem Companion

What's next for UrduAI Taleem Companion

UrduAI Taleem Companion will evolve from a basic learning assistant into a complete Urdu-first AI education ecosystem.

In the next phase, the platform will introduce voice-based learning, allowing students to ask questions and receive explanations in spoken Urdu, which will especially help first-generation learners and rural students.

We plan to add curriculum-aligned content for madrasas and schools, combining Islamic studies with modern subjects such as Mathematics, Science, and Computer Basics — all explained in simple, authentic Urdu.

Another major step will be teacher support tools, where teachers can generate lesson plans, worksheets, quizzes, and explanations in Urdu within seconds, reducing their workload and improving teaching quality.

To increase accessibility, UrduAI Taleem Companion will be optimized for low-internet and low-end devices, making it usable in villages and small towns.

In the long term, the platform aims to collaborate with Urdu academies, madaris, NGOs, and government initiatives to promote Urdu-based digital education across India.

Our vision is to make UrduAI Taleem Companion a trusted AI learning partner for every Urdu learner — ensuring that language is never a barrier to quality education.
