UrbanMatch was conceived to address a critical gap in affordable housing development: the challenge of truly integrating new projects into existing communities. Historically, housing initiatives often relied on subjective assessments, leading to isolated projects and community resistance. This "old way" of planning lacked a quantifiable understanding of a neighborhood's unique cultural fabric.

The project aims to shift this paradigm by introducing "Cultural Intelligence" into the development process. The core idea is to measure a neighborhood's "soul" or "vibe" using data. This led to the development of a "New Affordable Housing Blueprint," a three-phase pipeline. While the first two phases cover feasibility (zoning, infrastructure, funding) and socio-economic factors (access to jobs, schools, healthcare), the third and most innovative phase focuses on "Cultural Fit."

UrbanMatch proposes to quantify this cultural fit by utilizing Qloo's Cultural AI. This involves using Qloo's APIs to analyze consumer taste data, allowing developers to define target audiences based on demographics, location, and interests. By understanding local affinities and popularities for various cultural entities and tags—like "community gardens" or "live music"—UrbanMatch provides data-driven insights. This approach moves away from guesswork towards a more precise and proactive integration strategy, ultimately striving to build communities that truly belong and avoid the mistakes of displacement seen in the past.
