Inspiration

The inspiration has come from wanting to build a community through volunteering.

What it does

The application will ask you a variety of questions about your interests. After, you complete the form, a list of local volunteering opportunities will appear.

How we built it

We built the web application using Django.

Challenges we ran into

I ran into a few challenges with Django. This was my first time using Django, however, my teammate, Ryan Harper, was quite familiar with the software. He had Pillow downloaded, so the user can easily upload the profile images. However, I didn't have it downloaded, but I wasn't able to exactly pinpoint how to fix this issue, but I realized it came from the installation process. We also add some issues with the Github Repo. There were some issues with pushing the newer commits due to issues with access to contributors.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I believe the backend did come out to be solid, as there is a separate home page, login page and page for users only.

What we learned

I learned to better problem solve with Softwares. In addition, I was able to brush up on some HTML and CSS elements by playing around with the site.

What's next for Urban-Octo

Urban-Octo would further like to develop the UI and UX for the site by adding features that will localize it according to your place, adding a point system for the users to promote locals to go to more events and improve over all frontend.
