Inspiration

We noticed that people today don't take the time to truly explore the cities around them. With today's constant available stimulation, no one has the incentive to have little adventures and get to know the area around them! That's why we created Urban Endeavors!

What it does

Urban Endeavors is an app to encourage city travel. When users visit tourist destinations, the app will recognize their location and assign points accordingly. The more the user travels the more points they will collect! In addition to collection points, we also add a rich background on each location, effectively teaching users about the history of their area. Kinda like a tour guide in your pocket!

How we built it

We planned mock-ups and scribbles to design the product. The front end was built using react and expo, the back end was written in express, and the data was stored in Firestorm's real-time database. We implemented a check method to see if a user is in the area of objectives. We stored data about the location and presented it to users via react components.

Challenges we ran into

We didn't communicate enough, and a lot of mistakes could been solved by discussing issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Having a working map on our app, building a dynamic radius, about to find "pins" in a 500-foot radius, extensive data collection on locations, and using a new database to store our data in a more modern way.

What we learned

Communicate, stay calm, and work more like a team and less as pieces of one big project. We also learned to have better research practices and to trust something to click eventually.

What's next for Urban Endeavors

We would like to actually be able to use our database, create profiles, and make friends on the app
