Inspiration 🌟
The inspiration for Upskill Navigator stemmed from the challenge many employees face in navigating their career growth within large organizations. While companies invest heavily in internal resources, employees often struggle to find the right opportunities, mentors, or paths to develop their skills and progress in their careers. We saw a need for an inclusive, AI-powered tool that could not only help employees define their career goals but also provide them with tailored upskilling and networking opportunities. Our vision is to create a tool that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion by offering personalized guidance and mentorship for underrepresented groups, empowering all employees to thrive.
What It Does 💬
Upskill Navigator is an AI-powered career growth and upskilling platform for large organizations. It helps employees:
Define Career Goals: Whether they want to switch roles, move to a different department, or take on more responsibilities.
Create Learning Paths: Provides personalized learning recommendations using internal and external resources, including corporate training, online courses, and mentorship programs.
Facilitate Mentorship: Recommends mentors within the organization based on employee goals and experience.
In short, Upskill Navigator bridges the gap between career aspirations and actionable steps, empowering employees to reach their full potential while leveraging existing company resources.
How We Built It 🛠️🖥️
We built Upskill Navigator using a combination of OpenAI's Node.js library for intelligent career path recommendations, leveraging some of its features like function calls. We used Next.js to build the front end of the application.
Challenges We Ran Into 🚧
One of the biggest hurdles was creating a very flexible application capable of integrating with a wide variety of internal company resources (job boards, course lists, announcements) while ensuring the AI has access to accurate and up-to-date information.

We’re proud of creating a solution that not only personalizes career development paths but also places a strong focus on DEI, helping employees from underrepresented groups find the support they need. The successful integration of various internal and external data sources to offer a holistic upskilling experience is another accomplishment we're particularly excited about.
