My children were most certainly my inspiration. My 7 year old has struggled to understand the changes that have taken place in her life. Not going to school, not being able to see friends, or go to a playground. It's been tough as a parent to feel helpless in such a situation where your child feels lost. So, I gave her little tasks that she could do to help keep herself safe and those around us safe. This is where the storyline comes from.

I began the process by writing out the story. I rewrote it several times in an effort to keep it brief but informative, fun but sincere, and to offer up the sense of security and community.

A challenging aspect of the story writing and illustrating was deciding how much information was too much for a child to digest, without washing over the profound time we're living in, globally.

I'm very proud of the illustrations. They are all hand done by me with watercolor and ink. I spent a lot of time trying to compose them in a light and whimsical manner to help alleviate the heaviness of the subject matter.

The whole project was one big learning experience. It was time consuming, emotional, frustrating, validating and inspiring, all in one. I have absolutely loved this process. Thank you for the opportunity to stretch and grow my creativity.
