Inspiration

I am aiming for the Next Gen Award. I got the idea ever since my cousin tried to make a workout app and I felt that it was boring. In my eyes, if you make an app you got to make it useful or fun. You know what I picked. Both, cause why not? That is how the birth of UpShift came to be.

What it does

UpShift is a gamified health/fitness tracking app. It asks you questions in the start of the app, to get to know you. Then you get deeper into the app, revealing the dashboard showing the options you have. You could do your log food, do exercises, get reminded for sleep, document your weight, and much more. This is all possible along with going with friends, and challenging them to face each other, to compete on the stop in the leaderboard. The app is customizable to your wish like font size or light/dark mode.

How we built it

I built it using the help of my cousin and learning the workouts of react-native with the help of Claude Code. I spent months going through this project starting in August. Tweaking each part of the app, fixing bugs, making animations, and just creating the app just the way in my imagination.

Challenges we ran into

There were a lot of challenges, especially learning challenges. I was not able to get a lot of the buttons working, add more features, readjust to mobile, adjust to SE, achievement error, GitHub push error, UI changes, and much more.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am incredibly proud of even making this app. It took a lot of effort, multiple hours, and lots of eye pains. I am really proud of the progress I have made. Just in Mid-August, I have know idea how to push into GitHub or what is npm. That's so crazy I didn't know that. Right now, it is like second-hand nature for me.

What we learned

I learned a lot about react-native, npm, npx, github pushes, AI prompting, AI in general, App Building, Screens, and sooo much more.

What's next for UpShift

If I win or don't win, I am incredibly grateful for even having the opportunity to participate in this competition. I tried my best and will still continue my app. Probably putting it in my cousins name to attempt to earn money with him.
