A Social Network Built on Positivity

The purpose of Uplift is to share with others content that is heartwarming, hilarious, happy, or just generally uplifting.

When a user posts content (which can include text, images, videos, gifs, links, and more), that content is shared with other people in their local community. Other people can then "uplift" a post if they find it uplifting. Users can sort posts on their feed by most recent or most "uplifted."

As a post gets more uplifts, it rises to the top of the local "most uplifted" feed, thus getting exposure to more users. It also rises up on users' regional and global feeds. Thus, the end goal of the most uplifting posts is that they will appear at the top of the global feed.

Every time a user's post is uplifted by someone else, that user's account receives a small amount of money that they can donate to a charity of their choice. The money for this will be raised with banner ads which appear between posts on a user's feed.

LA HACKS JUDGES: A Note About the User Interface

Please note that for this app, we used user interface libraries that had already been created in the past by one of our coders on some of his previous projects. Therefore, the hack that we embarked upon in LA Hacks was the application of these libraries to a social network and setting up our server and cloud functions.

We mention this to ensure that we are abiding by the official rules stating that teams must begin their hacks at the competition. To be fair to the other teams, please judge our app based on the server integration and application of the user interface to the new social network, not the user interface itself. Treat the user interface like any other 3rd party API that hackers are using in this competition (just, in this case, we're the ones who made said API in the past).

Thanks!

We just came up with the idea of making a social network built on positivity. Users can post heartwarming and happy content, and they get exposure that corresponds with the quality of their post. Their posts generate ad revenue, and they can choose what to do with that ad revenue. We were thinking we'd have a list of charities built into the app that the user can donate to, that way they are not only uplifting others with the content of their post, but they are also actively helping those in need. Stay tuned to our development! -William
