Hospitalised children’s main negative emotions associated with hospital visits are anxiety, fear, and pain. Current AR stress-reducing methods involve preparing children for specific procedures using books or tablets that include AR. CareXtRa Hard is here to propose a science-backed, versatile experience that can be applied to most procedures and will accompany children not only during the preparation stage, but throughout the procedure (where applicable) and after the procedure. CareXtRa Hard is a personable, multi-faceted product. Children’s favourite teddy or object is turned into a tailored AR character and provides emotional and esteem support at times where family or clinical support is not applicable. In addition to the virtual toy, children can have a conversation that provides information, motivation and reassurance, and also listen to relaxing music.
