Inspiration
We believe many students can relate or think back on a moment in their academic career where you have frantically and tediously calculated your grades to, for example, see what you need to pass the course. This was one of the main driving forces to create this application for us. We wanted to create something that others would actually use on a daily-basis, and this seemed like a perfect choice to accommodate our skill level.
What it does
The upGrade application allows users to seamlessly audit and effortlessly track and organize all of their course grades. The Idea is to setup your courses with the app using your course syllabus and inputting all of the marking breakdowns. Users then have the ability to add assessments which consist of a name, grade, and a category which corresponds to one of marking breakdowns inputted earlier. Available to you are statistics regarding your minimum and maximum grade, and your current projected grade.
How we built it
upGrade was created using Java, more specifically with Android Studio.
Challenges we ran into
Considering that this was our first hackathon and as well as first experience with Android Studio, we definitely ran into our fair share of problems… Maybe even more than just a fair share :(
Accomplishments that we're proud of
At the end of the day, we are proud to have created a working application in the given 24-hour nwHacks event.
What we learned
Aside from the technical skills picked up from using Android Studio, more importantly, we learned how to cooperate and work efficiently and effectively as a collective.
What's next for upGrade
There are a few features we still would like to add, additionally the UI/UX can be improved in many fronts. We have also discussed possibly migrating the app to iOS, because who doesn’t like a little upGrade in their life. ;)
