Inspiration
As students who have all lived off-campus in Allston, we experienced firsthand the waste issues during Allston Christmas. We saw beautiful items being hauled off in dump trucks, solely because no one grabbed them in time.
What it does
Up4Grabs provides the residents of Allston with an efficient way to donate their items. Whether it be a couch, bed frame, or TV, Up4Grabs will help reduce the issue of waste production during this stressful period, leading to a more sustainable pattern of consumption.
How we built it
We began planning our website using Figma, and implemented it using Node and Tailwind CSS within Visual Studio Code. Figma allowed us to create a mock flow of the website and brainstorm each element of the site.
Challenges we ran into
As with any project, there were dozens of various functions we could provide for users. Determining what we should include, and ultimately how to implement them, proved to be the greatest challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our front-end design and how hard we worked to make it look cohesive. We dedicated a large amount of time on the user interface, through the use of Figma.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the complexities of planning and building a website.
What's next for Up4Grabs
We hope to eventually build upon the functionality of the website, and launch it for students within Allston to use by the next Allston Christmas.
