Fruit Noir XR is part of an innovative project tackling childhood obesity by making fresh fruit fun for children, especially those from low-income households. Inspired by classic film noir detective stories, we’re developing an MR app for the Meta Quest 3, (worn by a parent or responsible adult, and cast to a TV or mobile device) for kids to enjoy at home. Using classic movie tropes, we aim to shift the perception of fresh fruit from ‘boring’ to exciting by bringing our AI-powered fruity characters to life in your living room. We developed Fruit Noir XR using a combination of augmented reality (AR) and gamification techniques to create an app that brings fruit to life as characters in a gangster movie on the Quest 3, which the kids can see on TV. Children can use real fruit to unlock fun facts, games, and recipes, making healthy eating an adventure for the whole family.
