Inspiration
I had an incomplete web development project built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript back in 12th grade and it had bugged me ever since because I just couldn't get it to work and so I wanted to redo another one with my teammate who is new to HTML and CSS but with some knowledge in JavaScript to rebuild a new and improved web application.
What it does
It is a turn-based RPG where you face off against a bot using a series of moves that may strike them down or be striked down first using a class system.
How we built it
Used HTML and CSS for the front-end, and JavaScript for the back-end part.
Challenges we ran into
Trying to get the class system to work. For some reason, I could not get the class system to work as global variables get reset as soon as the page gets redirected so it was stuck with one single class. This is an issue of communication between the front-end and the back-end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to make a working functional turn-based RPG game with working actions (with some minor bugs).
What we learned
We learned to have some front-end built up fast before working on back-end so that the communication wouldn't be an issue and then we could focus on the niche part of the game (aka balancing and more design).
What's next for Gladiator's Odyssey
The next goal for this project is to fix the class system as described and have the user be able to select from a multiple of classes. Then add some tweaks to improve the style of the game to make it look less bland.
