Inspiration We were inspired by the simplicity and fun of apps like Tinder and Kahoot. Tinder’s fast, intuitive swipe interface and Kahoot’s engaging group dynamics made us realize — decision-making can be fun and easy if it's designed right. We wanted to bring that same energy to solving the classic group struggle of choosing movies, games, restaurants, and more.

What it does Swipe & Decide helps groups quickly and painlessly make decisions. Users swipe through options (like movies, games, restaurants) individually, and then the app aggregates everyone’s swipes into a final ranking, giving you a clear, democratic result. No more endless debates — just swipe, decide, and go!

How we built it We built Swipe & Decide using .NET 8 using C#, Node.js, HTML, CSS, OpenAI, SignalR, MongoAtlas, Render, and PorkBun. The core features include real-time updates, a clean swipe interface, and a smart algorithm that ranks choices based on group preferences. We focused heavily on making the UX smooth and intuitive, inspired by popular mobile apps.

Challenges we ran into One big challenge was making sure that individual swipes were collected and processed correctly without slowing down the experience. We also had to think carefully about fairness — making sure the final ranking accurately reflected the group's overall preferences, even when people had very different tastes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We’re proud of creating an experience that feels both fun and genuinely useful. Seeing groups go from "endless arguing" to "decision made" in just a few minutes was a huge win for us. Also, getting the real-time swiping and ranking to work smoothly was a major technical achievement!

What we learned We learned a lot about group dynamics — even simple decisions can get complicated quickly when you have many opinions. We also sharpened our skills in building responsive, real-time applications and designing interfaces that work for everyone, not just individuals.

What's next for S&D Cards Next, we want to expand Swipe & Decide with features like:

Customizable categories (for example: "Road trip songs" or "Party games")

Weighted voting (so you can rank your top picks)

Guest access (so people can join decisions without downloading an app)

More playful animations to make the experience even more fun

We're also exploring how we could integrate it with platforms like Discord or Zoom for virtual hangouts!
