Inspiration
Working as a home health aide for Alzheimer's patients, Nara's mother Fe has heard the same questions every hour: "What time is it?" "What day is it today?" "Who are you?". Although she loves her job, Fe has always wanted something that could inform her patient so she could focus on other aspects of her job. Nara and Sebastian decided that a website with this information would be good not only for Fe and her patient, but for other carers and patients as well.
What it does
It has a very simple interface that features the time, date, and the name of the caretaker. There is also a soundboard that plays music by decade and genre, eliminating the chance for the patient to get overwhelmed with choice.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on the Replit IDE.
Challenges we ran into
We're not very advanced in JavaScript and we in fact planned a completely different project, but we were able to recollect and solve this problem.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a simple interface for people with Alzheimer's and their carers to make their days a little easier.
What we learned
We both furthered our understanding of javascript and how it interacts with HTML and its components. We also thought more about what it's like to live with Alzheimer's in order to make it more accessible.
What's next for reCollect
We plan on adding more ways for people who live with Alzheimer's to remember memories with the people they love, like slide galleries and more personalized content. Maybe even ways to connect with other senior they know, in order to help them with socialization.
