Inspiration
Inspiration
We were inspired primarily both by the event theme and by our past experiences with video calls and the frustrations that come with them.
What it does
It's a game where the player attempts to survive (stay connected) for the entire Mooz meeting. Events will occur (low device battery, shirtless dad walks in, etc.) and the player will have to find a way to continue to participate in the meeting despite the challenges. The player has a hidden "participation" value that serves as a health bar - if you ignore the Mooz meeting completely in order to focus on the challenges at hand, you will be disconnected.
How we built it
We build our game on Godot (an open source game engine), combining 2d and 3d elements. All of the artwork/sound effects/other assets/code/mechanics/voice acting were created in-house by our team over the duration of the Wolfjam.
Challenges we ran into
We had to build up the game (systems, artwork, mechanics) from the ground up, as well as manage our version control with a team of 9 working on the same project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
IT WORKS (it's not very deep, though--not very many events for the player to handle, and it's not very well explained so it's confusing for anyone who jumps into it but wasn't part of the development process) and it feels original - something we actually made, from the ground up. We even have voice actors :)
What we learned
Version control; communication.
What's next for Unstable Connection
Submitting it. (Jokes aside, given more time, we would add more scenes, events, player interactions, and debug several elements).
