Unshackle.me: A Digital Sanctuary for Mental Wellness
Inspiration
In India and many other parts of the world, emotional wellness is still surrounded by taboo, stigma, and lack of access. Rising suicides among students, especially in Indian cities like Kota, and increasing mental distress caused by online harassment among influencers and youth inspired us to build a platform that truly listens and heals—anonymously and compassionately.
What it does
Unshackle.me is a digital sanctuary for mental wellness. It offers anonymous emotional support through:
- AI-powered chat and voice assistant trained for empathy
- A safe peer community where people can post without judgment
- Verified therapists for one-on-one support with a freemium model
- Mood journaling and breathing exercises—all in a calming, trusted environment
How we built it
We used Bolt.new's no-code builder for rapid development and layout structuring. Google Gemini was integrated for conversational AI support, Claude AI for advanced prompt engineering and empathetic response generation, Supabase for database and authentication. A calming UI/UX design theme was maintained throughout to ensure trust and emotional comfort.
Challenges we ran into
- Customizing dashboards for different user roles in a no-code environment
- Ensuring anonymity while allowing optional identity reveal in safe settings
- Structuring a safe community space that prevents trolling or misuse
- Managing complex data relationships between users, therapists, and community posts without traditional coding experience
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created a full-stack MVP platform that is meaningful and scalable
- Developed a real use-case platform with global relevance but Indian contextual sensitivity
- Designed emotional support features like journaling and breathing modules without needing clinical background
What we learned
- Building mental health products requires more than tech—it needs empathy, clarity, and simplicity
- No-code tools like Bolt.new are incredibly powerful when used with the right external APIs
- Trust in UX is not a design feature—it's a mission. Every word, color, and button matters in building emotional comfort
What's next for Unshackle.me
- Expand to multilingual support
- Introduce AI therapy simulation tools
- Launch mobile-first versions with voice journaling and anonymous helpline integrations
