Due to the current Covid 19 pandemic, Purified Air Powered Respirators are in extremely high demand due to the amount of healthcare professionals requiring them (and a subsequent shortage of equipment) to protect themselves from contracting the virus. Additional quality PAPR now needs to be developed quickly and cost effectively to ease the demand on this equipment and protect healthcare staff.
The quickly and cheaply produced PAPR would ideally need to be:
• re-usable following a simple clean (or disposable if cheap and abundant) • highly effective • quiet (enabling healthcare professionals to hold conversations whilst wearing them – current models are extremely noisy) • fit with ease (for example, the FFP3 model only fits over a beardless face and needs to be disposed after one use, the specification details are available as an attachment) • Offer a hood with a clear view that allows for glasses/goggles underneath and does not mist up • Can be donned/doffed easily and safely (including intricate connections to the hood from the filter) • Covered hose from powdered purifier to the hood (disposable covers can be difficult and time consuming to remove) • Ideally cool for the wearer • Last at least two hours with a warning when the power is running low • Rechargeable • Filter easily cleaned and changed
