Inspiration
My inspiration for this project came from my experiences with difficulty in gaming. Many players face barriers that limit their enjoyment and engagement. I aimed to create an interactive experience that showcases how simple adjustments can enhance gameplay experience.
What it does
The website allows users to experience a button-based game that starts out difficult and unfair. It provides options to customize settings for improved accessibility. Players can adjust features such as button size and speed to change the difficulty.
How we built it
We built the application using React, Tailwindcss, and MaterialUI for the front-end and TypeScript for type safety and better code organization. The game logic was implemented in a modular way to make changes easier.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was coming up with a game to showcase this. It was difficult to make a game that both showcases accessibility and can be coded within the time constraints. I eventually settled on the simple button game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of creating a functional and interactive game that shows the impact of accessibility settings on gameplay.
What we learned
I learned the importance of accessible features and how to effectively implement settings that cater to needs. I also gained experience in visual design with functional elements.
What's next for Unlocking Game Accessibility
Next, I plan to expand the game by adding more advanced accessibility features, including user-defined profiles and a more visual customization options. I also aim to gather feedback from users to improve the experience.
