Inspiration

I was desperately searching for ideas after 5 (underestimation) ideas had been shot down over the past week due to having been done in some form before. It was almost 6 PM, and I was still procrastinating on working on my would-be <100 LoC citation helper, but then the muse from the projector screen, Flappy 67 blessed my percepts. I realized it had a few fatal flaws- the brainrot was to slow in scope, unvaried, and too consensual to partake in. Thus, in rembrance of ReelsMaxing and to maximise one's information load, I created Unlimited Flashbang.

What it does

The chrome extension enables a hyperspeed slideshow of images (and sometimes videos) on Reddit, Tumblr, and Instagram, while creating speedreading practice on article sites such as Medium or Wikipedia. Don't worry, you won't learn anything much, there's some special guest to keep your grey matter smooth. You can also change the rate of flashing if you wish to take a more leisurely scroll.

How we built it

The project scope technically expanded a bit in a backwards manner, since I implemented fast scrollflash on Reddit, Tumblr, and Instagram (in that order) first before having it read articles in a way that had some of my own "flair". The entire project was vibecoded with ChatGPT, with the assets being downloaded from various sources/custom-made.

Challenges we ran into

I started extremely late (8 PM) due to the initial idea drought and following procrastination session. I was also working alone, and above all, I did not know a lick of JavaScript. Thus, the entire project is completely vibecoded in perhaps the most shameful display of laziness in these hallowed halls. I also accidentally overslept (3.5 hours instead of 2 hours), further cutting down on my time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Actually creating a working project, which created something beautiful at times (on Tumblr, for example, since my timeline was mostly art, I actually saw a lovely montage of colours- that should probably have been appreciated at a slower pace).

What we learned

How manifest works, fields in manifest, some basic JavaScript (mostly through passive absorption), developing a chrome extension in general

What's next for Unlimited Flashbang

Working video slides on Reddit and Instagram

Creating cosmos levels of fiendish YouTube video preview slideshows (attempted, but didn't work for many reasons). They should hopefully mix into a slurry of colour and faces.

Adding audio to everything via some click permissions stuff

More brainrot for articles
