Inspiration
We looked up weird obscure functional programming languages from around Y2K and found Joy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joy_(programming_language)
What it does
Lets you play 2048 in your terminal, implemented with Joy.
How we built it
Whiteboard algorithm design & trial and error.
Challenges we ran into
- Lack of variables - can only use a single stack.
- Lack of documentation - some being incorrect.
- No syntax highlighting or vscode support (or support in general)
- Finding a working implementation of Joy and getting it running - had to use Docker
- Defining a function in the repl resets your stack's memory
- Unhelpful error messages (just gives you the keyword with the issue, not where in the code it is)
- Hard to debug
- User input with stdin doesn't work when running the joy file directly, you have to load in the commands manually
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Got our heads around a weird programming language.
What we learned
It's easier to use assembly
What's next for Unjoyous 2048
archival of joy version and port it to assembly
Built With
