UniVerse — Our Journey

Inspiration Choosing a university shouldn’t feel like solving a puzzle with missing pieces, but for most students, it does. From scattered rankings and outdated websites to biased opinions, the process is overwhelming and stressful. Our inspiration for UniVerse came from experiencing this frustration ourselves. We asked a simple question: What if discovering universities was clear, personalized, and even enjoyable? That question became the foundation of UniVerse.

What We Learned Building UniVerse taught us far more than just technical skills. We learned how powerful empathy driven design can be when solving real world problems. We gained experience in:

Organizing and summarizing large, diverse datasets
Designing intuitive interfaces that reduce decision fatigue
Using interactivity and gamification to improve engagement
Leveraging AI chatbot to guide users instead of overwhelming them

Most importantly, we learned that great products don’t just present information, they help users make confident decisions.

How We Built It UniVerse is a web platform that brings together detailed information on hundreds of universities around the world and tailors it to each student. We designed features that mirror how users naturally explore content:

Smart filters that adapt to individual priorities
UniSwipe, a Tinder-style swiping experience for quick discovery
UniGuessr, a GeoGuessr-inspired game that lets users explore universities globally
Side-by-side university comparisons for deeper evaluation
An AI-powered chatbot that answers questions instantly and provides guidance

From backend data structuring to frontend experience design, we focused on scalability, clarity, and ease of use.

Challenges We Faced One of our biggest challenges was ensuring data consistency and reliability across universities from different countries and systems. Another challenge was avoiding information overload. We realized that stress increases when irrelevant data outweighs what truly matters to a student:
