Inspiration

We thought that, as students, having a platform to communicate with pretty much anyone about anything in our university's ecosystem would be really valuable to both newcomers and more veteran students.

What it does

Our app provides a platform where every student can find topics, arrange plans, ask questions and pretty much anything that will enrich their university life in a really accessible way.

How we built it

We used Next.js as the framework to build this app. We arranged in one of our partner's house and spent almost all time hacking our way through the competition!

Challenges we ran into

Where do we start, oh man. We had trouble with our database system, with our login system, with our linter, with our async/await management, with our pizza and out giant plate of pasta, with PWA... Pretty much everything was challenging for us, since it's one of our first hackathons and we're still university students, but we're so proud we managed to overcome almost all of them in time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were skeptical about being able to finish this on time by around the middle of the competition, but the sole fact that we managed to make it to the end is already a hube accomplisment for us.

What we learned

We learned and got closer to mastering lots of interesting technologies, which we're really happy about. SQL, PWA, Authentication, and a few others were some of the most interesting overall.

What's next for Universal

We're really considering to expand the app to make it more solid and robust, as well as polishing the design aspect and coming up with some actual style guide to be followed throughout the project. We'll also have to migrate to a cloud database since the local one doesn't work with vercel's serverless ecosystem, something we didn't find out about soon enough sadly. Still, we've got some plans for this app and we're excited to keep working on it, at a lighter pace of course.
