Project Story
About the Project
As university students, we often felt disconnected despite being on the same campus. We envisioned a platform that would not only strengthen campus connections but also serve as a hub for collaboration, fund collection, and resource sharing. This project was our answer—a digital campus link that goes beyond typical social media by integrating features such as:
- Social Posts: Create, update, and delete posts with a smart filter to block banned words.
- Lost & Found: A dedicated feature to help students locate lost items quickly.
- Rose Gift Feature: Users can send each other roses—whether as a token of appreciation or to exchange sustainable items—bringing a fun twist to expressing support.
- Idea Exchange: Share and support innovative ideas aligned with SDG 17 goals.
- Club Management: Join or quit clubs, making it easier to get involved in campus life.
- User Profiles & More: Every student can showcase their interests and achievements in a personalized profile.
Inspiration and Learning
The inspiration for Unityverse Campus Link came from our own experiences on campus. We wondered:
- How can we better connect with fellow students?
- How can we contribute positively to our school community?
- How can we create a system that also helps generate funds for student initiatives?
While working on the project, we delved into new technologies—using Next.js for the frontend and Java Spring Boot for the backend. Being our first time with Next.js and Tailwind CSS, we faced a steep learning curve. Every challenge, from understanding a new framework to integrating multiple features, turned into an invaluable lesson in coding and project management.
Building the Project and Overcoming Challenges
Building the app was no small feat. Balancing university studies, assignments, and tutorials with hackathon deadlines (discovered only 2–3 months prior) meant we were constantly racing against the clock. Our challenges included:
- Time Constraints: Juggling coursework and hackathon preparation pushed us to manage our time more effectively.
- Technical Hurdles: Learning Next.js and Tailwind CSS from scratch was challenging, but it opened our eyes to modern web development practices.
- Team Coordination: Despite our busy schedules, our teamwork and mutual support helped us overcome obstacles and keep the project moving forward.
- Forgot Password Feature: One notable challenge was implementing a secure and reliable "forgot password" feature. Due to time constraints and technical complexities, we couldn’t get it right this time, but it remains a priority for future updates.
Through this process, we not only honed our technical skills but also discovered the importance of flexibility and collaboration. Every problem we encountered taught us how much more there is to learn and inspired us to continuously improve the platform.
Future Improvements
Our journey with Unityverse Campus Link is just beginning. We plan to continuously enhance the project by:
- Adding More Features: We’re exploring ideas to further engage the campus community, such as event calendars, advanced club management tools, and interactive challenges.
- Improving the Design: A better user interface and refined user experience are on our roadmap to make the platform even more intuitive and enjoyable.
- Expanding Functionalities: Future updates will include enhanced security measures, richer media support in posts, and deeper integrations with campus services.
- Forgot Password Recovery: We acknowledge the current lack of a robust forgot password functionality. Although we couldn’t overcome this challenge in the initial build, it is high on our list of features to implement and refine in upcoming iterations.
Conclusion
Unityverse Campus Link is more than just an app—it’s a community project built by students, for students. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished so far and excited about the endless possibilities ahead. This platform is our first step toward a more connected campus, and we’re eager to continue innovating and improving it with every new idea and feature.
