Inspiration

We are also high school students struggling to decide our university courses, so we deeply sympathise with others facing the same challenge. The resources we currently have access to are simply not enough to aid our decisions, and much of the guidance available is either insufficient, generic, or difficult to navigate. We wanted to create a solution that helps students make these important decisions with greater confidence and clarity.

What it does

UniPath AI uses a questionnaire or your CV to determine the university course best suited for you, as well as the university and career options available through that degree. The recommendations are based on comprehensive questions covering factors such as your preferred country of study, hobbies, interests, financial situation, academic background, and future aspirations. By analysing these factors, UniPath AI provides personalised guidance tailored to each student's unique circumstances.

How we built it

We built UniPath AI with the help of AI-assisted development tools and coded the platform ourselves. We fed large amounts of educational and career-related information into a Large Language Model running through Ollama, enabling it to generate personalised university and career recommendations. We focused on creating a system that can understand a student's profile and provide meaningful suggestions based on the information they provide.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was handling large file sizes and managing the extensive amount of data required to make meaningful recommendations. We also faced challenges in ensuring that recommendations remained relevant and personalized rather than generic. Designing a comprehensive questionnaire that gathered enough information without overwhelming users was another significant hurdle. Additionally, integrating AI effectively while maintaining a smooth user experience required extensive testing and refinement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to build such a comprehensive application at a young age and turning an idea inspired by our own experiences into a functional product. We are especially proud that UniPath AI has the potential to help students make better decisions about their futures. Creating a platform that combines university guidance, career exploration, and AI-powered recommendations into a single experience is an achievement we are excited about.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned how to properly develop software and work with AI technologies. We discovered that coding is much more complex than it initially appears and that building a complete product requires persistence, problem-solving, and continuous learning. We also learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and collaboration when tackling ambitious projects.

What's next for Unipath AI

We hope to continue expanding UniPath AI and make it accessible to more students around the world. Our goal is to improve the quality and accuracy of recommendations, support more countries and education systems, and provide even more resources to help students plan their futures. Ultimately, we want UniPath AI to become a trusted platform that guides students through some of the most important decisions of their lives.
