Inspiration

Living by the sea, I often see how storms bring mountains of trash to the shore: bottles, clothes, pieces of shoes, and plastic foam. Sometimes the waste even drifts from other countries, carried by the same water that connects us all. It is impossible to stay indifferent when the ocean becomes a mirror of our own neglect. That’s why I decided to create this short AI-animated film to show how trash travels from shore to shore, harming life and beauty along the way. Through this story, I wanted to remind people that our choices matter. Only 9% of global waste is recycled, but change begins with awareness. If even one person starts sorting their waste or buying less because of this film, then it has already made a difference.

What it does

Uninvaited Guest is a short AI-animated film that visualizes the journey of waste from the sea to the shore and beyond. It shows how pollution spreads across the planet, silently affecting nature and life. Through simple but emotional visuals, the film raises awareness about environmental responsibility and the impact of human waste. It ends with a reminder that only 9% of global trash is recycle calling viewers to act, rethink consumption, and treat the planet with care.

How we built it

I started by building the visual world in Midjourney, designing every scene from the calm shoreline to the distant sea where the waste drifts away. Using KlingAI, I brought these still frames to life, creating motion that feels organic and reflective. Finally, I assembled everything in CapCut, where I shaped the rhythm of the story, refined transitions, and balanced the tone to make each frame flow naturally into the next.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was designing the main character making it visually engaging but without triggering pity or fear. It had to look expressive enough to carry meaning, yet neutral enough for the audience to reflect rather than empathize. Another difficulty was showing how pollution moves finding the balance between visual poetry and environmental realism. The scenes needed to feel natural and cinematic, not overly stylized or literal. Maintaining consistency between AI-generated frames lighting, movement, and atmosphere, also required patience and many iterations to achieve a cohesive look.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud to have created a short AI-animated film that doesn’t just illustrate a problem but invites reflection and responsibility. The project proves that AI can be a tool for emotional storytelling and environmental awareness - not just for visual experimentation. I am especially proud that through this work I can address important social and environmental issues, express what truly matters to me, and do it through the beauty of imagery and artistic composition. It is about finding harmony between message and aesthetics. I managed to merge stillness, motion, and symbolism into a unified narrative that resonates differently for everyone. Some see loss, others hope, but all are reminded that our actions matter. Above all, I am proud that this film encourages people to think, care, and act even in small ways, like sorting waste or avoiding unnecessary consumption, because change begins with awareness.

What we learned

This was my first experience working with a socially-driven theme, and it taught me how powerful visual storytelling can be in raising awareness. I gained valuable experience in maintaining character consistency, something that was quite challenging at that stage of my AI work. I also strengthened my ability to build a cohesive narrative, where every frame naturally continues the previous one, creating a seamless emotional flow throughout the story.

What's next for Uninvited Guest

The project could evolve into an educational or awareness campaign, using AI art and storytelling to inspire small actions that lead to big environmental change.
