UnInsight
An anonymous feedback platform for university courses, developed during Hack for Humanity 2025 Try it out here
Inspiration 🚀
The story begins a few months ago, when I wanted to pick an extracurricular course. My choices narrowed down to a few equally appealing options. At this point, the course descriptions alone were not enough, and the only logical thing left was to hear feedback from students who had already taken these courses. Unfortunately, I didn’t know anyone who could help
That's when I got the idea for this project: a platform where students can see actual feedback from their peers about the university courses they are interested in
The Problem 🧩
Imagine how useful it would be to have a website where students could freely share their thoughts and experiences related to the courses they took
Whether they want to tell others how amazing the course was or warn them about potential difficulties, that platform would be the right place to do that
Well, the good news is you don't have to imagine anymore! Our project helps students make more informed decisions about their studies and improves the transparency of teaching quality
Features
Allow me to introduce Uninsight, an anonymous courses review platform. Let’s talk about the main features:
- 🔒 Anonymity, all reviews are anonymous so students will be comfortable sharing their experiences
- 🤖 AI moderation, so some students won’t get too comfortable while sharing
- 📊 Scientifically based metrics to provide maximum insight into the course quality
- ⭐ Professors rating calculated as average from associated courses
- 🔎 Search for courses with handy filters to ensure efficiency and better user experience
Challenges we ran into 🚧
I would say the biggest challenge was keeping track of our overall progress and having an idea of how close we were to completing the project. I realized a few days ago that, as the team's captain, I should have monitored our frontend progress more closely and asked for more concrete progress reports
Unfortunately, our work approach resulted in the frontend of the project falling behind and hindering our chances to properly test the backend
Accomplishments that we're proud of 🏆
- Making consistent effort to work on a project for a considerable period of time (aka 'surviving' @Radu)
- Showing ability to collaborate effectively and work as a team (aka 'probably not having my hair fall out completely during this' @Aura)
- Creating a fully functional prototype as we planned (aka 'I am honestlty surprised we have something working' @Radu)
- Learning new things and skills on an individual level (aka 'I will never touch Django again' @Nik)
What we learned 📚
- As a captain, I realized that I still underestimated the impact of communication and management in building software projects
- For our designer, Aura, it was definitely a learning experience in terms of working under a pressing deadline and handling pressure in general
- Niklas, backend programmer said, 'That it's not always my fault' — which is a great mindset shift, I think
- Radu, our frontend guy, realized how much he actually hates frontend
What's next for UnInsight 🌍
I think it’s important to state that there are no direct competitors. The first project that comes to mind is RateMyProfessor.com, which focuses exclusively on the US market and solely rates the professors. As a result, it doesn’t provide much insight about the courses themselves
The market is even more welcoming in the EU since there are no such popular websites so far. With the right resources, we could add a few more features and work with our university to implement it at the organizational level. From there, we can gradually scale up to the national level and, who knows, maybe even expand throughout Europe
And I think with the prototype we have, it will be easy to apply for university proof-of-concept funding to actually get those resources I mentioned
