Inspiration
What it does
This project was inspired by a real and frustrating problem I’ve seen around me for years. Many talented students with strong FSC marks end up in low-quality or unsuitable universities, not because they lack ability, but because they lack proper guidance. At the same time, several government and university scholarships — such as the Honhaar Scholarship — remain underutilized simply because students are unaware of them or don’t understand the eligibility process.
The goal of this project is to bridge that gap.
I built an application that helps students choose the best universities they realistically qualify for based on their academic performance, stream, and preferences. Alongside this, the app highlights government and university scholarships the student is eligible for, providing clear eligibility criteria, deadlines, and application guidance.
What I Learned
Through this project, I learned how real-world problems can be translated into structured system requirements. I gained experience in:
Defining user needs and converting them into features
Designing recommendation logic based on merit data
Structuring a scalable Product Requirements Document (PRD)
Thinking from a user-centric and impact-driven perspective
How I Built the Project
The project was designed by first analyzing student admission criteria and scholarship requirements. I structured the system around student profiles, a recommendation engine, and a centralized scholarship database. The focus was kept on simplicity, accuracy, and accessibility.
Challenges Faced
One major challenge was ensuring accurate and up-to-date merit and scholarship data. Another was balancing simplicity with powerful recommendations. Solving these challenges required careful planning, verified sources, and a clear system design.
Overall, this project represents my effort to ensure that talent is guided, not wasted.
