Inspiration: Finding off-campus accommodation in Nigerian universities is often stressful, unsafe, and filled with scams. Students struggle to connect with trusted agents, while genuine agents lack a credible digital presence. We built UniLodge to bridge that gap and make student housing safer and simpler. What it does: UniLodge connects university students with verified house agents within their campus communities. Students can browse listings, watch property videos, view prices, and connect directly with trusted agents. Agents can upload properties and manage inquiries through their dashboard. How we built it: We designed UniLodge as a mobile-first platform with two user roles: students and house agents. We implemented secure authentication, structured dashboards, and a listing system that supports video uploads and pricing transparency. Verification processes ensure only trusted agents go live. Challenges we ran into: Designing a reliable agent verification system Structuring the platform to remain simple yet scalable Ensuring trust and transparency in a high-risk market Optimizing video uploads for smooth performance Accomplishments that we're proud of: Created a solution addressing a real and urgent student problem Built a dual-dashboard system for students and agents Integrated property video uploads for transparency Designed a platform focused on trust and simplicity What we learned: We learned that solving real-world problems requires simplicity, trust, and user-centered design. Building for students means prioritizing clarity, speed, and reliability above complexity. What's next for UniLodge: Launch in one pilot university Strengthen agent verification with partnerships Introduce in-app messaging and booking features Expand across multiple Nigerian campuses Integrate AI-powered recommendations for smarter housing matches.
