We were inspired by the Global Connectivity track. We thought of the idea of connecting with computer science majors around the world because we wanted to network with other students who are also taking the classes and internships that we are taking.
UniLinked is a web app that allows computer science students to connect with other students around the world. Its main feature is a chat room. This feature makes it easy for users to connect with other registered students of their choosing. To get started with UniLinked, click the Register button and sign up today!
We divided our tasks up into frontend and full stack assignments. Three of our members worked on the frontend, and our remaining member worked on the backend. Together we used HTML/CSS, Python and Django to create our app.
We ran into some design challenges and database challenges. We struggled with some CSS grid properties, and we couldn't get some of our buttons down to the size that we wanted to. On the database end, we encountered bugs that took some time to work through.
We are proud of our intractable Register page, where you can type in information and have it send to a backend server. We are also proud of our humble frontend design.
We learned how to work with Git. We also learned new frontend and full stack skills, including design concepts and new ways to implement our data. This hackathon also gave us the opportunity to develop our team skills.
Our team is ready to submit our final project. We will take our great experience with MakeUC and apply it as we continue to participate in future hackathons.
