Unify

Inspiration

We noticed many messages and discord server invites on Eclass and Zoom lectures where students wanted to find others sharing the same classes.

What it does

This site was created to help students at the University of Alberta find fellow students in similar classes as them. Students can add the classes they are currently taking and are then matched with other students that have 2 or more similar classes as them. Students are then presented a report of all matching students and and their Discord handle.

How we built it

We used html and css for the front end and node and javascript for the backend

Challenges we ran into

We had issues with node js and routing parameters but we fixed all bugs.
It was also challenging to figure out how to manipulate the database of students to obtain the matching students for each course and display it to the website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to get the website working without any bugs.

What we learned

We learnt how to use our mongodb skills to design the matching algorithm

What's next for Unify

We plan to increase the scope to all universities (currently it only works for UAlberta students)
